Display Name. During onboarding, you may enter a first name or nickname. This is stored locally on your device and is used solely to personalize your in-app experience. It is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Journal Entries. All text you write in the App — including entry titles, body content, mood selections, and completion timestamps — is stored exclusively on your device in local storage. We never collect, read, transmit, upload, or access your journal content. Your writing is yours alone.

​

Onboarding Preferences. Responses you provide during onboarding (such as age group, journaling motivation, preferred style, and scheduling preferences) are stored locally on your device to personalize your experience. This data is never transmitted off your device.

We want to be explicit about what we never collect:

- Your journal entries or any text you write

- Your name, email address, phone number, or contact information

- Your location data

- Your photos, camera, or microphone input

- Your browsing history or app usage data

- Device identifiers for advertising (we do not serve ads)

- Health, fitness, or biometric data

- Contacts, calendars, or other personal data from your device

LockedInJournal is designed with a local-first, privacy-by-design architecture. Your journal entries, preferences, onboarding data, and app-blocking selections are stored exclusively on your device using:

- UserDefaults for lightweight preferences

- Local JSON files in the App's sandboxed Documents directory for journal entries

- App Group shared container for data shared between the main App and its Screen Time extensions

There are no user accounts, no cloud sync, no remote databases, and no server-side storage of your personal data.

Analytics events collected via PostHog are transmitted to PostHog's servers and retained in accordance with PostHog's data retention policies. These events are associated with an anonymous device identifier only and contain no personally identifiable information. We do not use this data to identify individual users.

Your on-device data is protected by your device's built-in security measures, including device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. We recommend keeping your device software up to date and using a strong passcode.

You can delete any individual journal entry from within the App at any time. To delete all App data stored on your device, you may uninstall the App, which removes all locally stored data including journal entries, preferences, and onboarding responses. Because we do not store your personal data on any server, uninstalling the App permanently and irreversibly deletes all your on-device data. Analytics data already transmitted to PostHog will be subject to PostHog's data retention and deletion policies.

We use PostHog to collect anonymized analytics about how users interact with the App. PostHog may receive:

- An anonymous device identifier (not linked to your name or advertising ID)

- Screen views and in-app interaction events

- App lifecycle events (install, open, update)

- Aggregate onboarding response data (e.g., age group, journaling frequency)

PostHog does not receive your journal content, display name, or any data that could identify you personally. This data is used solely for internal product development and is not shared with advertisers or data brokers, and is not used for cross-app tracking. We use Adapty to manage in-app subscriptions and purchases. When you make a purchase, Adapty processes the transaction through Apple's App Store infrastructure. Adapty may receive:

- An anonymous user profile identifier

- Subscription status and transaction receipts

- App Store product identifiers

The App uses Apple's FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, and DeviceActivity frameworks. All processing occurs on your device under Apple's security model. We do not operate any server infrastructure related to Screen Time. Apple's handling of Screen Time data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

Journal First: Write to Unlock does not include any advertising frameworks, tracking pixels, or data broker integrations. We do not serve ads, build advertising profiles, or share data with ad networks. We do not use Apple's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and do not request tracking permission via App Tracking Transparency.

LockedInJournal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because the App stores all data locally and does not collect personal information, there is minimal risk. However, if you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 is using the App inappropriately, please contact us and we will advise on removing the App and its data.

The App's use of Apple's Screen Time APIs is for self-management purposes only and is not intended for parental monitoring or control of another person's device.

Because all your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control at all times:

​

- Access: Open the App to view all your journal entries and settings.

- Delete individual entries: Use the delete function within the App.

- Delete all data: Uninstall the App from your device.

- Revoke Screen Time permission: Go to iOS Settings → Screen Time → LockedInJournal to revoke Family Controls authorization at any time.

- Revoke notification permission: Go to iOS Settings → Notifications → LockedInJournal.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because the App does not collect personal information transmitted to our servers, CCPA access and deletion requests are fulfilled by the user's own device controls described above.

Journal First: Write to Unlock processes minimal personal data, all of which remains on your device. To the extent GDPR applies:

- Legal basis: Your consent (granted by using the App) and legitimate interest in providing the service.

- Data portability: Your journal entries are stored as standard JSON files on your device.

- Right to erasure: Uninstalling the App deletes all data.

- Data transfers: No personal data is transferred outside your device, except anonymized subscription data processed by Adapty (see Section 4.1).

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and, where practicable, through an in-app notice. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
